Entrance examinations are held twice a year subject to the availability of vacancies: in mid-September (with an application period from the 1st to the end of July) and in mid-January (with an application period from the 1st to the end of November).

Required Exam Material

According to the approved Program Regulation, starting from the fall semester of 2024-2025, 75% of the graduate seminars will be taught remotely and 25% face-to-face for each seminar, throughout the program’s duration. Three out of the thirteen weeks of seminars each semester will be conducted face-to-face, on Saturdays, with dates to be announced in due time. Physical attendance at face-to-face meetings is mandatory.

Α Greek language qualification of at least B2 level is required, as almost all courses are offered in Greek. The BA (first degree) submitted must be recognised by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (Hellenic NARIC, or DOATAP). A translation of the degree and an Apostille stamp are also required.

The selection of candidates is made through written and oral examinations. Only candidates holding a BA with an average score of at least 6.00/10 are entitled to sit the exam.

The Interinstitutional MA Program "Theater and Film Studies" is co-organized by the Department of Philology of the University of Crete (https://www.philology.uoc.gr/) and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (https://www.ims.forth.gr/el).

The program focuses on the scholarly study of the history and theory of theater and cinema. It is open to graduates of all disciplines who are interested in specializing in the research and scholarly exploration of these two arts. It provides training suitable for employment in the public and private sectors as well as for participation in research projects and pursuit of doctoral studies.

The program is free of charge.

It is conducted through a blended learning system, with 75% synchronous distance teaching and 25% face-to-face teaching.

The duration of the program is 4 semesters for full-time studies and 8 semesters for part-time studies. The total number of ECTS required for obtaining the Master’s Degree is 120.

Admission to the Interinstitutional MA Program "Theater and Film Studies" is through examination.

Entrance examinations for admission in February 2025: Saturday 18 January 2025, 11:30am.

The top performer in the entrance examinations will receive an excellence award from the Efthymios Koumentakis Donation, along with a cash prize of €1,000.

APPLICATION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND FOR FREE MEALS AND ACCOMMODATION

Graduate students can apply for scholarships from the Institute for Mediterranean Studies and the University of Crete, based on their performance in the program.
