Angela Gioti is Associate Professor in Comparative and Modern Greek Literature at the Department of Philology, University of Crete, where she studied. She obtained her PhD in 2009 from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and conducted her postdoctoral research at the Freie Universität (FU-Berlin) and AUTH. From 2010 to 2019, she was Adjunct Professor at FU-Berlin, while in 2015-2016 she was Visiting Professor at the Ludwig-Maximilians Universität of Munich. From 2019 to 2023, she was Assistant Professor in Modern Greek Literature at the Department of Philology, University of Ioannina. She also taught at the University of Crete (2009-2010) and AUTH (2013-2014). She participated in several European and national research projects (FU-Berlin, Einstein Stiftung Berlin, Centrum Modernes Griechenland Berlin, Centre for the Greek Language, National Book Centre of Greece, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens).

Besides numerous articles, she has also written the study “Περί βάθους ή στους αντίποδες του ύψους” (in Alexander Pope, Περί βάθους, Athens: Antipodes, 2015) and the books Ο Κάλβος στα ίχνη του «Λογγίνου»: ένας άνθρωπος των γραμμάτων στην Ευρώπη του 19ου αι. (Antipodes, 2019), Μεταπολεμικές δοκιμές πολιτικού λυρισμού. Συνομιλίες με τον Κάλβο. Παλαμάς-Καρυωτάκης, Σικελιανός-Σεφέρης, Ρίτσος-Λεοντάρης (Athens: Alexandreia, 2021) and Η κριτική στον αστερισμό του «γερμανισμού». Her research interests include Modern Greek Poetry of the 19th and the 20th century, the reception of modern aesthetics in Modern Greek culture, the history of press, the history of literary criticism and the networks of cultural exchange in the Ionian 19th century, the Greek reception of post-war American literature and the cultural history of seaside tourism.
